Want to knit a sweater, but don’t know where to start? Do you like the idea of someone to help you at each step of the way? Join Jennie in this eight hour guided class over 2 months to knit a raglan sweater. Each class is two hours long and scheduled every second week.

Skill level required: Beginner to intermediate knitter. Must be comfortable knitting, purling, basic increases and decreases and know how to knit in the round

Materials supplied by students:

  • Pattern for Mud Season by Elizabeth Smith (pattern is available on Ravelry for free). Link to pattern:https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mud-season
  • Yarn that is appropriate for the size of sweater you are choosing to knit, we recommend Estelle Chunky
  • 6mm (US 10) circular needle; 24” and 32” length for body of sweater and sleeves (magic loop), or size needed to obtain gauge
  • 5.5mm (US 9) circular need; 16” length for neck ribbing, 32” sleeve ribbing (magic loop), or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Darning needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers (at least 4 in a variety of colours)
  • Stitch holders or waste yarn

PRE-HOMEWORK: Please have completed before first class.

Gauge swatch: Please ensure your gauge swatch is at least 10cm (4”). Write down your gauge BEFORE you wash and AFTER. The AFTER gauge is the correct gauge for the pattern.

Gauge: 14.5 sts & 22 rnds = 4”/10 cm in stockinette stitch in the rnd.

Please see link to Swatching in the Round for how to complete your swatch:

MEASURE 10cm (4”) of stitches and count the number of stitches in that area. WRITE IT DOWN. Soak your completed swatch in tepid or cool water with a little wool wash for 5 minutes and gently squeeze out the excess water. Lay flat to dry, being careful not to stretch out the knitting. Measure as before and write down the new gauge. If it is correct, awesome. Come to class with your gauge swatch, your numbers written down and the materials listed above. If it is too small (i.e. Too many stitches per 10cm (4”), then go up a needle size and try again. If there are too few stitches, go down a needle size and try again. Make sure you bring both needle sizes to class.

Please ensure that all materials are purchased prior to the class and yarn is wound into a ball if purchased as a skein
